Volcanewt is a colorful city destruction game. The focus is on the titular character, a giant monster that attacks the beautiful Tropical nation of Hawiwi.

Character Modeling and Animations

Character Design

I was tasked with creating the monster that is the Volcanewt. My design process started with taking the direction put on by my Leads of a fast, slimy character with sillier proportions. I then referenced real life Newts, finding one that matched description

Character Animation

The Animation was made inside of Maya and then exported into Unreal.  Around 60 Animations were made for the Volcanewt Project, taking account for the Newts' entire range of motion, such as Walking, Running, Falling, Climbing. The Animations also included attacks, like Slashing, Fireball, Beam, and Tongue Attacks.

Rigging

For the Volcanewt Project I really wanted to get a wide range of flexibility for the Newt to express his silly/slimy nature. I did this by making a standard Quadruped rig with multiple Spline handles throughout the body.

Programming

I was also in charge of  programming the Animation Tree for the Newt. I went about this by making multiple state machine that controled different parts of the body such as the Head, Arms, Tail, and Torso. I also used a variety animation notifies to alert the Blueprint and Player Controller of multiple actions.
